NIJ Students Express Diverse View on New Media Centre

Students of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) have expressed their opinion over the ongoing construction of the new media resource centre.

The sod ceremony of the Adebutu Kessington Media Centre was held in April 29, 2024, marking the official commencement of the building project.

Facilitated by the Ogun-state-born philanthropist, Adebutu Kessington, the media centre is described as a major development step for NIJ.

Speaking with our correspondent, Margaret Ifah, a student of ND 1 at NIJ, said the media centre will portray the school as one of the top journalism institutions in Nigeria.

“I believe the new building is a good initiative especially at this period when people are beginning to hear and know more about NIJ. One of the things that can show that a school is growing is seeing infrastructural development. Being the top school of communication in Nigeria, NIJ is expected to boast of advanced media tools to aid students’ learning,” she said.

Margaret said she, however, hopes that the new building will not encroach the football pitch or limit its capacity.

“I only hope that the new building will not override the football pitch,” she added.

On the other hand, Arinze Nwokedi, an HND 1 student of NIJ, said he has been looking forward till the day the media centre building will be completed.

He also added that he is expecting the students to benefit from the new structure.

“There is much anticipation from many students and staff management of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism for the new media resource center being built in the school premises,” he said.

“I personally, have found myself tangled in the web of my thoughts many times thinking about what the finished building would look like and how beneficial it would be to the students.

“The game of patience has definitely been a long one as all parties of the institution have had to put up with the construction noises and distracting movements for several months now but we hope that the results would be worth the endurance.”

Aare Oyefeso recently disclosed that the media resource centre will be completed in September, 2024.
